The Federal President thanked the Amir of Qatar for his consistent commitment to negotiations in the Middle East. The Federal President received Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for talks at Schloss Bellevue on 22 October.

The Amir and Qatar have been campaigning for the release of the hostages in the Gaza Strip and for a ceasefire since 7 October 2023. The Persian Gulf country has earned worldwide recognition for its role as a mediator in international crises.
