On 31 July 2024, at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda and the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier attended the commemoration ceremony on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Warsaw Uprising against German occupation. As the first German President since 1994, Federal President Steinmeier gave a speech during the state ceremony at the Warsaw Uprising Monument on Krasiński Square.
