Federal President Steinmeier and President Zelensky discussed Ukraine’s current military situation, its reconstruction, and Germany’s ongoing support. We will not let up, said the Federal President.

President Zelensky was visiting Berlin for the Ukraine Recovery Conference, which Ukraine and Germany are jointly hosting in the city from 11 to 12 June. The conference is bringing together around 1800 representatives of governments, business, civil society and municipalities. Both this conference and the upcoming Summit on Peace taking place in Switzerland were also discussed at the talks between the two presidents.

In the evening, Federal President Steinmeier gave a speech at a reception at the Ukraine Recovery Conference. He said: We will support you and your country – for as long as it takes. And we will also support you in the years to come when and where fighting can be replaced by reconstruction. The Federal President thanked everyone who was helping. In addition to economic reconstruction, social and municipal reconstruction is also important. He also emphasized: I firmly believe that Ukraine’s future lies in the European Union. This is why it is so important that Ukraine has become a candidate country and that negotiations can begin in the near future.
