Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited Lithuania from 29 to 30 May.

The Federal President invited family members – partners, parents, siblings and children – of Bundeswehr soldiers currently stationed in Lithuania as part of NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence battlegroup to travel with him to Lithuania. During a joint visit to the military training area in Pabradė, the Federal President learned about the current deployment conditions on NATO’s eastern flank. In an exchange with the soldiers and their families, the focus was on the challenges on the ground and the burden faced by their relatives in Germany.

In Vilnius, as part of the city’s 700th anniversary celebrations, the Federal President gave a speech at the invitation of Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda at the conference entitled Lithuania and Germany: View from the Perspective of 700 Years. Furthermore, the Federal President held bilateral talks with President Nausėda and opened an exhibition of historical documents at the Vilnius University Library.
