Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited the United States of America from 16 to 17 November. In New York, the American Academy presented the Federal President with the Henry A. Kissinger Prize on the evening of 16 November. The prize’s namesake, Henry Kissinger, gave the opening speech while former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice delivered the laudatory speech in honour of the Federal President.

The Henry A. Kissinger Prize has been awarded annually since 2007 to figures in the field of international diplomacy who have made an outstanding contribution towards transatlantic relations. The prize has previously been awarded to, among others, Helmut Schmidt, Helmut Kohl, Angela Merkel, former Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker, as well as former US President George H. W. Bush.

The American Academy in Berlin is a transatlantic research and cultural institution which focuses on promoting long-term intellectual, cultural and political relations between the United States and Germany.
