On 26 April, Federal President Steinmeier travelled to Paris for a working visit at the invitation of the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron. The two Presidents discussed current issues, focusing in particular on the future of European integration and the lessons to be learnt from the COVID-19 pandemic. Afterwards the Federal President met representatives of French civil society.

On 26 April, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier travelled to Paris for a working visit at the invitation of the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron. This was the Federal President’s first foreign trip since September 2020. His visit to the French capital is a special reflection of the close ties between Germany and France.

The two Presidents discussed current issues in national, European and international policy, focusing in particular on the future of European integration and the lessons to be learnt from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following their talks, the Federal President met representatives of French civil society.
