Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Elke Büdenbender visited the Republic of Uzbekistan from 27 to 29 May 2019.
The Federal President was welcomed with military honours by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the capital Tashkent. After talks, the Federal President layed a basket of flowers at the Monument to the Independence of Uzbekistan.
In the afternoon, Federal President Steinmeier learned more about trade and investment opportunities during a discussion with business people and a tour of a factory. He discussed current developments in Uzbekistan with representatives of civil society. In the evening, he met Uzbek artists and other guests at the Goethe-Institut in Tashkent.
On the last day of his visit, the Federal President met students of Urgench State University in western Uzbekistan and visited the historic old town of Khiva.
