Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Elke Büdenbender visited the Republic of Croatia from 20 to 22 March.
In Zagreb, the Federal President was welcomed with military honours by President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović. He then held talks with the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Gordan Jandroković, among others, and layed a wreath at the Wall of Pain. At the EuroCampus, he met German, French and Croatian school pupils. He also visited the Rimac Automobili electric car manufacturer. In the evening, the Federal President and his wife traveled on to Split.
On the second day of his visit, the Federal President learned about the particular challenges of urban development in Split. He visited a shelter for the homeless run by the civil-society organisation MoSt
("Bridge"), where he talked with residents and volunteers. He met culture professionals to discuss issues relating to social cohesion. Finally he met representatives of the organisation Pokret Otoka
("Island Movement"), which looks at ways to link up and network the Dalmatian island communities.
