On 19 September, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier – in cooperation with the Bertelsmann Foundation – launched a new series of events: Forum Bellevue on the Future of Democracy
.
The first forum examined the question of What future does the West have?
The liberal democracies of the West are currently undergoing deep-seated political, technological, cultural and social change. They are confronted with new tasks, questions and uncertainties. To what extent will democracy be able to find answers to these challenges and use to its advantage its ability to change and adapt – and grow in the process?
The Federal President delivered an opening speech at Forum Bellevue on the Future of Democracy
and moderated the subsequent panel discussion, which included the following guests:
- Parag Khanna, Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow, Robert Bosch Academy, Berlin
- Susan Neiman, Director of the Einstein Forum, Potsdam
- Heinrich August Winkler, Professor Emeritus of Modern History, Humboldt University, Berlin
