Partner regions

Hands-on politics, spontaneous language courses, delicious specialities, music, fashion and culture – Lower Saxony and Kenya, the partner regions for the citizens’ festival, have put together a fantastic programme.

Partner region Lower Saxony

Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) – partner region of the Federal President's Citizen Festival 2024

With its diverse agriculture, business and culture, Lower Saxony is perhaps one of the most multifaceted Länder of the Federal Republic of Germany. From the River Weser to the River Elbe, and from the Harz mountains to the sea, the people live and work in very different regions, characterised by innovation and tradition. The people of Lower Saxony are well-known for not chatting for ages, but simply rolling up their sleeves and getting on with things – almost one in two of those over the age of 14 are involved in voluntary work in their spare time. This year, many people organised or participated in activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of our Basic Law.

The Basic Law is the foundation for our co-existence. Seventy-five years of democracy, peace and freedom – the Basic Law is a real success story!

How much do you know about our constitution? In cooperation with the association Hands-On Politics (Politik zum Anfassen), Lower Saxony, as the partner region for the citizens’ festival, is inviting you to solve tricky puzzles about the Basic Law in the Escape Room or take part in a quiz.

Strength in teamwork!

Play a game of offbeat table football on our special table, where you will only succeed by working together as a team. After that, you can have your photograph taken next to Konrad Adenauer as he promulgates the Basic Law or listen to wonderful music performed by Juliano Rossi.

The partner region of Lower Saxony looks forward to welcoming you!

Partner country Kenya

Kenya – partner country of the Federal President's Citizen Festival 2024

Kenya is the first non-European partner country to participate in the Federal President’s Citizens’ Festival. In Kenya, philanthropy and support for societal welfare have always been esteemed virtues, often encapsulated by the spirit of "Harambee".

Situated on the East African coast, Kenya straddles the equator, placing part of the country in the northern hemisphere and part in the southern. The Great Rift Valley runs from north to south, dividing the country. Kenya boasts diverse geographical features, including abundant wildlife, a pleasant climate, stunning scenery and beautiful, sandy beaches.

Sustainable tourism in Kenya relies heavily on community support. Beyond conservancies, numerous community-focused tourism programmes are in place. These programmes, implemented by NGOs and private sector institutions, enhance living standards, education, healthcare and infrastructure for local communities. Kenya also hosts numerous sanctuaries and rehabilitation centres that play a crucial role in protecting its iconic wildlife.

In the garden of Schloss Bellevue, visitors can immerse themselves in Kenya's rich diversity, experiencing its multi-ethnic, multicultural, multiracial and inclusive nature.

Visitors will savour Kenyan cuisine, from slow-grilled meats to Ugali, Chapati, Githeri, Nyama Choma, stews, Samosas and Viazi Karai. They can also enjoy Kenya's magical coffee and world-class tea. Additionally, visitors will get a chance to expand their Swahili skills beyond “Hakuna Matata” through interactive sessions with actual Kenyan native speakers.

Kenya will showcase its dynamic fashion landscape, celebrating elegance and expression in both men's and women's attire. Guests will enjoy Kenyan music and entertainment, with quizzes and games for children and youngsters.

The festival will provide a networking opportunity for guests to engage with representatives involved in humanitarian work, women and youth empowerment and the promotion of gender equality.

Kenya looks forward to meeting you at the Festival!
