Official visit to Georgia

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Elke Büdenbender travelled to Georgia for an official visit from 6 to 8 October. In Tiflis, the Federal President conducted political talks with the country's President, Prime Minister, and the Chairman of the Parliament. He continued his journey to the region of Kakheti, where he met school pupils and the film producer Vakhtang Kuntsew Gabashwili. At a German Georgian vineyard, he was briefed on vocational training in the country before visiting German representatives from the EU Monitoring Mission in Mukhrani as well as a border crossing on the administrative boundary line with South Ossetia.

Federal President Frank Walter Steinmeier and Elke Büdenbender travelled to Georgia for an official visit from 6 to 8 October.

The Federal President conducted political talks with President Salome Zourabichvili, Prime Minister Giorgi Gacharia and the Chairman of the Parliament Archil Talakvadze. The Federal President held discussions with Georgian intellectuals on current developments in Georgia and Europe. He also met the Patriarch of the Georgian Orthodox Church for talks. The Federal President then traveled to the region of Kakheti to the west of Tiflis together with President Zourabichvili.

On the second day of his visit, the Federal President met Georgian school pupils and the Georgian film producer Vakhtang Kuntsew Gabashwili in Telavi. He was briefed about vocational education in the country during discussions with trainees at a German Georgian vineyard. The Federal President then met German representatives from the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Mukhrani and visited a border crossing on the administrative boundary line with South Ossetia.
